Mike Hall is a jazz saxophonist and educator. He began his musical career with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra which led to a twenty year association with composer/pianist Michael Garrick with whom he toured Malaysia and made several CD recordings and national radio broadcasts. His career has included a week at Ronnie Scott’s Club with the Echoes of
Ellington Orchestra, concerts at the World Saxophone Congress in Slovenia and Strasbourg with Andy Scott’s Group S and playing in John Dankworth and Cleo Laine’s Christmas Show. He freelances with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic
Orchestra and Hallé Orchestra and his duo recording, Over the Moon features pianist Dan Whieldon. In 2013 he was commissioned by the Manchester Jazz Festival to write and perform music for a project which crossed jazz with renaissance music, leading to his CD, The Felonious Monks. Mike also appears on a recently released CD recording The Jazz Planets, a reworking of Holst’s masterpiece. Apart from maintaining a busy performing schedule Mike heads Jazz Studies at the RNCM. He also runs various public workshops throughout the UK.
