Philip Ellis’s biography

Since winning first prize at the Leeds International Conductors’ Competition in 1991 Philip Ellis has established a reputation as one of Britain’s most versatile conductors.

In this country he has worked with all the major London and provincial orchestras including broadcasts and television appearances with all the BBC orchestras. Abroad he has a busy schedule with orchestras in France, Belgium, Holland, Hong Kong, Russia, Italy, Mexico, Australia and Germany. Philip works extensively as a conductor for ballet.

He has been associated with the Royal Ballet since 1989 and regularly conducts many international companies in Italy, France, Australia, Finland, Sweden, South Korea, Holland, Russia and Canada. He also has an extensive recording catalogue including discs with EMI, Nimbus, Universal and BBC TV and has received particular acclaim for his recordings with the soprano Lesley Garrett.
